Hubert Avery Davis, 79, Goldsboro, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family.

Avery was born in Duplin County Nov. 23, 1934, to the late Hubert Avery Davis and Lois Spence Davis.

He worked as an electrical contractor with Live Wire Electric Co., retiring after 37 years of service.

Avery was a true sportsman, most comfortable outdoors.

He always enjoyed the fellowship and devotions with the members of the Men's Bible Study held at the shop at his home.

Avery had a wonderful sense of humor, and never took himself too seriously. He was a good friend and a great father, and had a generous heart.

He provided a wonderful home for his family, and gave all he could to his family and strangers alike.

A service celebrating Avery's life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at Trinity Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Sasser officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Avery is survived by his wife, Patsy Davis; his son, Frank Davis and wife, Bonnie, of Goldsboro; daughter-in-law, Rhonda K. Davis; grandchildren, Cole Davis and Robert Ormond and wife, Renee; and great-grandson, Trey Ormond.

He is also survived by his stepchildren, Ruth Anne Harris and husband, Randy, of LaGrange and Melinda Bennett and husband, Mordecai, of Goldsboro; stepgrandchildren, Cailee Bennett and Andrew "Little Man" Harris; sisters, Shelby Kearney and Peggy Laws of Goldsboro; and brother, C.G. Davis of Monroe.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Grant Davis, and son, William "Will" Davis.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.

With loving gratitude, we thank the doctors and nursing staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their incredible guidance, wisdom and support during Avery's decline in health.
