LEONA POTTER SMITH

Oct. 14, 1924-Oct. 28, 2014

Leona Potter Smith, 90, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at the Brian Center in Goldsboro.

Leona was born in Lenoir County Oct. 14, 1924, to the late John Ira Potter and Queenie Cavenaugh Potter.

She was the youngest of seven children and the last living survivor.

Leona was married to her beloved husband, B.O. "Pap" Smith, for 52 years.

She will be remembered for her unconditional love as a wife and mother and a friend to all. So, too, will she be remembered for her compassionate spirit and soul and her gift of finding joy in doing random acts of kindness for others.

Family was paramount to Leona, and she loved nothing more than her husband, her children and grandchildren. She was the embodiment of love as we have been taught by our savior, Jesus Christ.

A service celebrating Leona's life will be held by the graveside at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, in Wayne Memorial Park, with the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating.

Leona is survived by her two sons, Albert O'Neil Smith and wife, Naomi, and Patrick Eugene Smith and wife, Jennifer; daughter, Linda Smith Satterfield and husband, Fred; seven grandchildren, James O'Neil Smith, Michelle Smith West and husband, Randy, Selena R. Smith and husband, Mike, Dawn Smith Arnold and husband, Joey, Scott Smith and wife, Jessica, Kevin Satterfield and wife, Cheri, and Jeffrey Satterfield and wife, Brenda; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Patrick and Jennifer Smith.

We would like to give a very special thank you to the wonderful staff at Community Home Health and Hospice for the love and care it provided for Leona during her final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude.

Also we would like to thank the caregivers at the Brian Center, who cared for Leona over these past years.
