E. NORMAN RICKS

MOUNT OLIVE -- Edgar Norman Ricks III, 58, died Sunday night at his home at 942 Baker Chapel Church Road.

His life will be remembered and celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home, with his pastor, Dr. H. Dennis Draper Jr., officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Norman retired from service as the finance director for the county of Wayne.

He was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Olive and was known for his enjoyment of doing handy-man projects around the church. He was a member of First United Methodist Men's peanut crew and was a volunteer carpenter with Habitat for Humanity Meshach Carpenters and the MERCI Center. He enjoyed fishing and carving birds.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar N. Ricks Jr. and Josephine Holding Ricks Patten.

Norman is survived by his wife, Donna Potts Ricks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer R. and Geoffrey Merritt of Mount Olive and Emily R. and Warren Lancaster of Goldsboro; two grandsons, Hunter Merritt and Walker Lancaster; two sisters, Anne Ricks Cheshire of Martinsville, Va., and Jo Ricks and husband, Jeffrey Clark, of Washington, D.C.; his parents-in-law, George and Inez Potts of Mount Olive; and a brother-in-law, Rudy Potts, and his wife, Jeneen, and daughters, Blair and Bethany Tadlock, all of Mount Olive.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at the home at other times.
