PIKEVILLE -- Mary Rice Porter, 63, died Friday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.
A service celebrating Mary's life will be held Monday, March 4, 2013, at noon in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Paula Griffin officiating. The family will receive friends Monday following the service.
Mary was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Oct. 2, 1949, to the late Virgil Rice Jr. and Ernestine Arnold Rice. She was a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church and had volunteered with the American Red Cross. Although Mary leaves a vacant place in our hearts, we know she truly earned her special place in heaven. Mary will always be remembered as a woman of faith, love and respect for everyone who touched her life. The best of Mary will live on in each of us.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert Porter; daughters, Jennifer Kent and partner, Celina Kent, of Orem, Utah, and Melissa Thacker and husband, Joseph, of Pikeville; and grandchildren, Rebekah Kent, Gabriel Kent and Samuel Thacker.
