A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 2, 2011, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2316 W. Main St., with Pastor William Breeden officiating. Burial will follow at Augusta Memorial Park with full Military rites performed by the American Legion 340.

He was born April 7, 1925, in Wayne County, son of the late Pharrow and Betty Raines Sullivan.

Sully will be remembered as a great husband, wonderful father and grandfather. Some of his greatest joys in life were his church, St. Marks United Methodist Church, where he was an active member for over 45 years, spending time with his family and friends, working outdoors and time spent with his friends with the Disabled Veterans of America Organization.

In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife while serving as a engineer in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Sullivan served his country honorably in Pearl Harbor, WWII and the Invasion of Normandy. He visited many states and countries while severing in the Navy and he also spent down time while docking on shore pitching ball with Yogi Bear. Following retirement from the Navy, he moved to Crozet, and worked at the former Morten's Frozen Foods as a maintenance mechanic until retiring again.

Harold and Phyllis were blessed with a daughter, Cynthia, who in turn blessed them with two grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn. Always happy to share his blessings, Sully was a kind soul with an extraordinary sense of humor and love for his family and many friends. Mr. Sullivan's entire family will sadly miss him.

In addition to parents and wife of 58 years, he is preceded in death by brothers, Veron, Doubt, Pete and Gleenwood; sisters, Ollie and Mildred.

Survivors include his only child, Cynthia Sullivan Jones; grandchildren, Matthew Fitzgerald of Fishersville and Kaitlyn Fisher of Waynesboro; brother, Clyde Sullivan of Rosewood; sister, Helen Hines of Chesterfield, Va.; as well as a number nieces and nephews.

His daughter wishes to extend a special thank you to Cathy Matherly for all her love, friendship and support throughout the years. She was a great friend to her parents and children, as well as her during this difficult time. She would also like to give a special thank you to Pastor William Breeden for all his help and support during her father's illness.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 2316 W. Main St., Waynesboro, VA 22980.
