MILDRED DEES SMITH

July 19, 1915-May 1, 2011

Mildred Dees Smith, 95, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Mildred was born in Wayne County July 19, 1915, to the late Walter Dees and Ruby Ginn Dees.

She was a devoted Christian woman, and was the oldest member of Antioch Free Will Baptist Church.

Mildred had worked as a sales clerk with Weil's Department Store for more than 25 years.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 3, 2011, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by her funeral service at 3:30 p.m. in the chapel, with pastor Greg Stancil officiating. The interment will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

Mildred is survived by her son, John W. Smith and wife, Carolyn, of Goldsboro; her daughter, Ann Smith Best of Pikeville; her daughter-in-law, Jesse M. Smith of Pikeville; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her stepsister, Blanche Gurganus of Goldsboro; her stepbrother, Allen Daniels of Goldsboro; and a special friend, Lois Howell of The Pines of Goldsboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Wilbert Smith; her son, Archie Earl Smith; her sister, Maude Parks; and her brother, Claude Edward Dees.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Antioch Free Will Baptist Church at 1407 Antioch Road, Pikeville, N.C., 27863.
