FLOYD CORNELIUS THORNTON

Floyd Cornelius Thorton, 80, Goldsboro, departed this life Wednesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 2, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Wave of Glory Faith Center, 915 McDaniels Ave./U.S. 117 S. in Goldsboro, with apostle Daniel Uzzell as eulogist. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

Floyd was born Nov. 6, 1930, to the late Callie Thorton Tyndall and Wannamaker Watson.

Floyd was employed by Wayne County Public Schools as a painter, at Goldsboro Country Club and at Robinson Saw Mill Co.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Callie Tyndall; grandmother, Mrs. Emma Hargrove Thornton; and son, Mr. Floyd "Jimmy" Uzzell.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Shirley (Rudolph) Peacock and Mrs. Dinah (George) Tootle of Goldsboro; son, Mr. Markham Keith (Theresa) Uzzell of Pikeville; brother, Mr. W. Lorenzo Thorton of Baltimore, Md.; eight grandchildren, Natosha, Travario, Tanashia, Kimolin, Stevie, Lawrence Jr., Sharonda and Jordan; a devoted neice, Mrs. Felecia (Michael) Shelton of Davidson; and a host of very close relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held today, May 1, 2011, from noon until 7 p.m. in The Bishop Lonnie E. Holloway Sr. Memorial Chapel, located at Smith-Holloway Memorial Funeral Services LLC. The family will be present from 6 until 7 p.m.
