DAVID W. HOOD

David Wright Hood, 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
David was born in Wayne County March 25, 1929, to the late Henry S. Hood and Gladys Wright Hood.
He was the owner and operator of Hood Equipment Co. of Goldsboro and Hood Logging and Timber Co.
David was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church, and had served his country in the United States Army.
He was a member of Grantham Grange and Woodmen of the World. David was a charter member of Grantham Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as one of the first chiefs. He was elected to the Wayne County Board of Education, and served as chairman for two years.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Patrick Muston and Dr. Al Hood officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and other times at the home of his daughter.
David is survived by his daughter, Sue Hill and husband, David, of Goldsboro; his son, Brian Hood and wife, Sharon, of Atlanta, Ga.; his grandchildren, Brent Hood, Stacey Hood, Morgan Hill and Jordan Hill; his brothers, Dr. Al Hood of Wake Forest and Stanton Hood of Anaheim, Calif.; and his sister, Patricia Hood Thigpen of Springfield, Va. He is also survived by a special friend, Doris Sutton, and their faithful K-9 friend, a pug named "Poo."
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Hood Jones.
