CARRIE MAE SMITH ROSE HAMILTON

One the day after Christmas in 1929 in Wayne County, North Carolina, a beautiful baby girl named Carrie Mae was born to the late Lawyer and Minnie Smith. She departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
In 1955, she became an employee of Goldsboro Memorial Hospital as a diet aide, retiring in November 1985 as a diet aide for special diets. Although she retired after 30 years of employment, she later decided to return to work. She completed training at Wayne Community College and became a Certified Home Health Aide. When she was no longer able to provide care to the infirm, she became an employee of a senior citizen program and was able to teach her beloved hobby, crocheting, to seniors enrolled in the program. Her students enthusiastically sought her out for instructions and she always responded with patience and care.
As a young woman, Carrie met Harry Lee Rose, who preceded her in death. After many years as a widow, in December 1980, she married her childhood sweetheart, Herbert Kennon Hamilton, who died in February, 2003.
Carrie was raised in a Christian home and gave her life to Jesus at an early age. She was a devoted "Mother" of New Stony Hill Church and faithfully served until her death prevented participation.
Carrie's first love was serving the Lord and second was her family and friends. She always greeted everybody with a dimpled smile. She never spoke ill of anyone or anything and often said, "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything." That was her creed to life and was loved by all she met. Although Carrie did not have biological children, she was the mother of many, especially to her nieces and nephews. Carrie's sisters, Ruby Covington, Lucinda Pearsall, Adrelia Wilson, Minnie Bell Chestnut, Armetta Barnes; and brothers, Amos and Walter Smith preceded her in death.
Carrie leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing her sister, Cassie Taylor and devoted nephews and nieces and other family members.
A visitation for Ms. Hamilton will be held Monday from 3 until 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations, Inc. Services celebrating the prolific life and legacy of Ms. Hamilton will take place on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at New Stony Hill United Chruch. Afterward, the E.M. Matthews classic angelic white fleet, lead by its authentic coupe Deflore, will escort Mrs. Hamilton's corporeal temple, along with her adored family, to her earthly consign in Elmwood Cemetery. Although her family is only left with precious memories, they can find solace knowing that Mother Hamilton is now sitting around God's marvelous throne telling her Heavenly Father how she made it over.
