VIRGINIA K. THOMPSON

GREENVILLE -- Mrs. Virginia Kirkman Thompson, 59, passed away Wednesday morning, July 14, 2010, following a period of declining health. Mrs. Thompson was a native of Alamance County, born Jan. 4, 1915, the daughter of Lewis Earl and Katherine Harris Kirkman.

The widow of Robert F. "Bob" Thompson Sr., she was very active in her church and community in earlier years. She was a former member of the Greenville Service League and the Inter Se Book Club. A member of Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church, she was also a member of the United Methodist Women and the Altar Guild.

Surviving are her son, Robert F. Thompson Jr. and wife, June Sullivan Thompson of Raleigh; daughter, Jenny Lynn Thompson Bell of Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Kathy Bell Kennel of Cary, Kirk Thompson of Chesapeake, Va., Bobby Bell of Virginia Beach, Va., Mark Thompson of Raleigh and Brad Thompson of Raleigh; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sunday at Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church and the family received friends immediately following the service.
