CHARLES S. "SAMMY" ROSE

SMITHFIELD -- Charles Samuel "Sammy" Rose, 65, died Sunday.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton, with pastor Dennis Pollock officiating. Burial will be in Overbee Cemetery in Brogden.

Sammy was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Johnston County to Mary Toler Rose and the late Charles Gurney "Coon" Rose Jr.

Sammy served in the Army during the Vietnam conflict and retired after working as a lineman with Bell South for 32 years.

He spent his free time hunting and fishing.

Sammy was a member of Tee's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Linda Malpass Rose of Smithfield; daughter, Heather Rose Gerrell and husband, James, of Selma; brother, Randy K. Rose and wife, Amy, of Smithfield; and three grandchildren, McKenzie Lee Gerrell, Madeline Ann Gerrell and Carson Lane Gerrell.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Faye Woodard Casey, and a brother, Ronnie Rose.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Parrish Funeral Home in Princeton.
