MARTHA M. RIDDLE
Oct. 21, 1924-Jan. 8, 2010
Martha M. Riddle, 85, passed away on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, at University Health Systems Hospice in Greenville.
The family will gather for a time of visitation on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Seymour Funeral Home from 6 until 7:30 p.m. A private interment will be held at a later date in the State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Mrs. Riddle was born in Ratiborhammer, Germany on Oct. 21, 1924. She was a military wife who gave up her German citizenship to become a proud American in 1956 -- forever having a deep love for America and her people. Mrs. Riddle was married to the late TSgt. Fred H. Riddle, retired, who served in the United States Air Force. She accompanied him in the service of his country as he was stationed in Michigan, Italy, Arkansas, Spain and South Dakota.
Although most of her life she was a homemaker, she worked in a hospital, a bank, served as a translator and interpreter and spoke five languages. She was also very proud of the time she worked for the Tuscarora Boy Scout Council as part of the fundraiser for building the Tuscarora Boy Scout camp in Wayne County. She loved her family, feeding her birds, her many cats over the years, rye bread and herring. Mrs. Riddle enjoyed reading, gardening and was well known for her spaghetti. She took great interest in politics and loved to listen to talk radio -- Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, specifically, and watched Fox news a great deal -- especially Bill O'Reilly, Mike Huckabee, and Glenn Beck. Mrs. Riddle as also very proud to say that she'd never eaten a "fast food" hamburger.
Mrs. Riddle is survived by her son, Donald M. Riddle M.D. and wife, Carol, of Kinston; her daughter, Pamela R. Riggs and husband, Jesse, of Winterville; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Riggs, Jennifer Riggs and Maggie Riddle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wayne County Rescue Squad, 209 S. William St., Goldsboro, NC 27530, or to University Health Systems Hospice, 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834.
