CHARLES N. KIRKLAND

Charles Nathaniel Kirkland Jr., 49, passed away Saturday in Ocracoke Island.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Graveside services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Hollywood Cemetery in Newsoms, Va.
Charles was born in Suffolk, Va., on July 23, 1959.
He was a member of Newsoms United Methodist Church in Virginia and a volunteer worker at the Lord's Table Church in Goldsboro.
He is survived by his parents, the Rev. Charles Kirkland Sr. and Vivian W. Kirkland; one son, Charles Nathaniel Kirkland III of New Jersey; two daughters, Shannon Long and husband, John, of Ahoskie and Samantha Kirkland of New Jersey; two brothers, John M. Kirkland and wife, Melissa, of Pikeville and Alton Dale Kirkland of Newsoms, Virginia; one sister, Lynne K. Smith and husband, Tim, of Mount Olive; two grandchildren, William Holmes Long and David Thomas Long; and his maternal grandmother, Odell B. Worrell of Newsoms, Va.

The family will receive friends other times at the home of his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles Kirkland, 126 Trey Drive in Goldsboro.
