La GRANGE -- Tanner Wells belted a three-run home run and Eastern Wayne opened its 2016 campaign with a 6-0, non-conference triumph over North Lenoir on Tuesday evening.
Wells went "yard" during the Warriors' first inning.
Lee Daniels, Brock Johnson (RBI) and Mike Wiggins (RBI) collected one hit apiece.
Johnson retired three NL batters on strikeouts and yielded a hit in three innings of work. Wells logged two innings of three-strikeout relief. Collin Nix posted one strikeout in the final two innings on the bump.
"We did a good job with two strikes offensively," EW head coach Jabo Fulghum said. "We pitched it well, played good defense. (We've) still got a long way to go."
The Warriors (1-0 overall) travel to Hunt on Friday, and return home Saturday for a non-conference battle against Nash Central.
