PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock delivered not one, but two striking blows in the sixth inning, and pulled off a 5-3, non-conference win over county foe Rosewood at Davis Field on Thursday evening.

Clinging to a 4-3 lead through 5 1/2 innings, Jacob Sanford connected on a two-out double. Chandler Gentry plated Sanford with an RBI double of his own that extended the Golden Falcons' advantage to 5-3.

"That was huge right there," CBA head coach Charles Davis said.

Aycock grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning and added a single run in the fifth. Rosewood (1-1 overall) scored once in the fourth and collected two seventh-inning runs.

Sanford earned the mound win. The University of Mount Olive signee retired five Eagles on strikeouts, walked three and yielded one unearned run on one hit in six innings.

Landon Casey tossed 2/3 innings of an inning and Trey Jordan earned the save with a game-ending groundout.

Casey and Sanford (two RBI) accounted for four hits. Gentry ended the day 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Senior Ethan Chapin and Jonathan Peacock cranked out two hits apiece for Rosewood. Chapin doubled and scored a run. Boone Moody and Hayden Amodeo each batted 1-for-3.

Moody also scored.

Tanner Bradley endured the mound loss. He yielded five runs on eight hits and three errors, and struck out two Aycock batters.

Weather permitting, the Golden Falcons (2-0) entertain Greene Central today. Rosewood returns to action Monday at Midway.
