PATRICIA JERNIGAN ROSE

June 20, 1936-March 3, 2017

After graciously enduring a lengthy illness, Patricia Jernigan Rose entered into her heavenly home Friday at the age of 80.

Patricia was born June 20, 1936, in Wayne County to her loving parents, Gladys McCullen Jernigan and Arnold Glover Jernigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Noel Dwight Rose, and her son, Noel Dwight Rose Jr.

Patricia spent her youth growing up on the farm in Wayne County, where she spent countless hours helping her parents on their farm and her father in his country store beside their home.

She graduated from Grantham High School in 1954. She went on to further her studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and graduated in 1958.

She was a registered dietitian, and served as food service director at O’Berry Center in Goldsboro, where she retired in 1992.

Patricia was an active member of the Eastern Star, Newton Grove Chapter. She was elected July 9, 1954, and initiated Aug. 20, 1954.

Patricia joined Jordan’s Chapel Baptist Church in August 1944, and cherished every moment of service. She taught Sunday school for children, youth and young adults over the years. She served as the church clerk for 25 years.

“Miss Pat” taught and directed Vacation Bible School.

She was very involved in the Women’s Missionary Society, and served as president for three years.

She took great pride in serving on the building and grounds committee, the fellowship committee, the pulpit committee and the hospitality committee.

She enjoyed heading up the annual church barbecue, and she spent countless hours decorating the church for special events and preparing food for various fellowships.

Patricia met the love of her life, Noel Dwight Rose Sr., and they were married at Jordan’s Chapel March 2, 1958.

They made their home on the family farm, where they raised their two children, Sharon and Noel.

Patricia enjoyed her work as a dedicated parent in the 4-H programs, as well as the Boy Scouts of America.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Sharon Rose Britt and husband, the Honorable John Milton Britt, of Tarboro, and her grandson, John Milton Britt Jr. of Greenville.

She also left to cherish her memory Gabriella Blalock, her true friend and “adopted” daughter. A special thanks to the staff of Fountains at the Albermarle in Tarboro for its loving care over the past several years.

A service to honor the life of Patricia was held Monday at Jordan’s Chapel Baptist Church beginning at 2 p.m.

The family will receive visitors at the Britt home in Tarboro.
