Melvin Wiggs, 77, Pikeville, passed away Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late Raymond and Annie Mae Howell Wiggs.

Melvin attended Pikeville High School, and got his high school diploma from Wayne Community College.

Melvin was a member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church and a member of the Ambassador Sunday school class.

He retired from Cherry Hospital, and after retiring, worked with Billy Holland Auto Parts.

Mr. Wiggs was an avid motorsport fan.

A service to celebrate the life of Melvin will be 11 a.m. Monday at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Barry Williamson officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Melvin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie Mitchell Wiggs; daughter, Jenny Ballance and husband, Tony, of Fremont and their two sons, Jacob and Seth; son, Danny Wiggs and wife, Lisa, of Fremont and their children, Ashley and Matthew; a great-granddaughter, Peyton Grantham; brother, Bill Wiggs and wife, Joy, of Pikeville and their children, Angie Thompson and husband, Andy, and Michael Wiggs and wife, Kelly; and sister-in law, Sharon Hood and husband, Richard "Dick," of Richlands.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, 752 Stoney Creek Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home.
