Charles Arthur Pate, 80, Kenly, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, in SECU Hospice House in Smithfield.
Born April 21, 1935, in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Clarence and Lessie Hales Pate.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Pate; grandson, Caleb Pate; and brother, Jesse Pate.
Charles was a member of Kenly Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2016, in the chapel of Parrish Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard Scott and the Rev. Aubrey Williamson officiating. Entombment will follow in Selma Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Shirley Wall Pate; sons, Charles A. "Chuck" Pate Jr. of Wilson and Dr. Chris Pate and wife, Shannon, of Goldsboro; granddaughter, Megan Barrett and husband, Ashton, of Rocky Mount; grandsons, Xan, Canden, Connor and Cabe Pate of Goldsboro; great-grandson, Bowen Barrett; sister-in-law, Pat Pate; nieces, Teresa and Tracey; and nephew, Maxie Kirby.
