HUGH GASTON HOWELL

Mr. Hugh Gaston Howell, 89, lovingly known by his family and friends as "Doodle," 3025 Thoroughfare Road, Goldsboro, N.C., departed his earthly life Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation Center in Durham, N.C.

Hugh was born in Wayne County June 2, 1924. He was born to the late Mrs. Lillian Wade Howell and the Mr. Claude Howell.

He received his education in the public school system of Wayne County.

After attending public school, Hugh served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. After his tour of duty, he received his honorable discharge from the United States Navy.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Thelma Leftdwrige Howell; his son, James A. Hodges; his grandson, Twiwan Best; and his two brothers.

Funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 9, 2014, at noon at McIntyre Funeral Home in D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C. Bishop James Leftdwrige will officiate.

Burial will be held in Widowdale Cemetery, 306 E. Elm St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.

Also, a public viewing will be held Friday, May 9, 2014, from 11 a.m. to noon at McIntyre Funeral Home in D.L. McIntyre Memorial Chapel, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C.

Mr. Howell leaves to cherish his loving and precious memories to his daughters, Beatrice B. Robinson (Michael), Dorrina H. White, Shirley A Kenion, Hilda P. Elliott (John), Ethel M. Best, Sharon P. Howell and Shirley A. Howell; his sons, Kenneth Howell and Allen Franklin Howell; his sister, Georgia Mae Packer; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friday, May 9, 2014, family members and friends will assemble one hour prior at 10:30 a.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., in preparation for the visitation and viewing.

Flowers may be sent to McIntyre Funeral Home, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., beginning Thursday, May 8, 2014, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
