KATIE GOFF BROGDEN

Katie Goff Brogden, 72, Dudley, went to be with her Lord peacefully Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Katie was born in Wayne County Sept. 24, 1941, to the late James Edgar Goff and Katie Butler Goff. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Brogden Sr.

Katie retired from the dietary department of O'Berry Center.

Following retirement, Katie worked with her family at Little Bulldogs Academy, where she was affectionately called "Ma Katie" by the children.

Katie also enjoyed working with flowers and crafts, but she will be remembered by her family as being deeply devoted to her family, and was happiest when she was spending time with them.

Katie was a beautiful person whose loving spirit and ever present smile radiated the joy she experienced in living every day of her life.

A service celebrating Katie's life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Seymour Funeral Home chapel, with pastor John Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Katie is survived by her daughters, Brenda Brogden Smith and husband, John, of Dudley and Theresa Brogden Overton and husband, Jimmy, of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Tabatha Smith Faircloth and husband, Chris, Brittney Smith and friend, Mark Toler, Chad Brogden and wife, Ashley, Lorenda Brogden and friend, Robert Darden, Anthony Brogden and wife, Betsy, Gabrielle Dillane and Danielle Dillane; and great-grandchildren, Brianna Bass, Brandin Bass, Nicolas Faircloth, Harley Faircloth, Joel Brogden, Josiah Brogden and Aleea Darden.

She is also survived by her sister, Gloria Jean Blanton; brother, Wesley Ray Goff; and a special nephew, Raymond "Buck" Goff Jr.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James R. Brogden Jr., and brothers, Raymond James Goff Sr. and Donald Ray Goff.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Brenda and John Smith, 455 Genoa Road, Dudley.
