MOUNT OLIVE -- Elma Edwards West, 99, formerly of Greensboro, went to be with her Lord and savior Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Buchanan Baptist Church Cemetery, 301 Buchanan Church Road in Greensboro. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Othur West.

Aunt Elma, as she was affectionately known, was born Jan. 12, 1915, in Harnett County to the late James B. Edwards "Jimmy" and Lessie Jones Edwards.

She was a graduate of the North Carolina School for the Deaf in Morganton, N.C.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Mattie Edwards; her infant sister, Thelma Edwards; her brother, Harvey (Ruby) Edwards of Goldsboro; and sisters, Eva (Grover) Edwards of Mount Olive and Ruth (Charles) Massey of Mount Olive, with whom Aunt Elma lived and received excellent care and love after her husband's passing in 1999.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews and other relatives and special friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
