GRANTHAM -- Carol Elizabeth Cox Hood, 90, Grantham, passed away Tuesday evening, Feb. 4, 2014, at Greendale Forest Nursing Home in Snow Hill.

Elizabeth was born Dec. 25, 1923, to the late Elam and Lelia Hinnant Cox in Grantham.

She attended Hardbarger's Business College in Fayetteville, prior to working for the federal government in Washington, D.C., and Charlottesville, Va., and at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.

Elizabeth and Jean L. Hood grew up across the swamp from each other. They went through school, and graduated from Grantham High School together.

They were married Feb. 10, 1946, sharing nearly 68 years of happiness.

She was a loving wife to Jean, and supported him in his work as a farmer and Methodist minister.

At her death, she was a member of Selah Christian Church.

In addition to her husband, Jean Hood, she leaves behind her loving children, Carol and husband, Ray Pridgen, of Snow Hill, Betty and husband, Barry Small, of Charlotte and Danny and wife, Karen Hood, of Chapin, S.C.

She had nine grandchildren, Michael Pridgen and wife, Heidi, of Greenville, Melissa and husband, Michael Dixon, of Snow Hill, Stancil Hood of Columbia, S.C., William Dimaggio and wife, Jessie, of Columbia, S.C., Matthew Small and wife, Erin, of Tega Cay, S.C., Elizabeth Laxague and husband, Adam Fiebelkorn, of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Jason Laxague and fianceé, Jennifer Babos, of Boston, Mass., and five great-grandchildren, Raeanne and Reagan Dixon, Lillie and Tucker Pridgen and Abigail Dimaggio.

In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her brothers, Victor, Toby, Henry and Bill; sisters, Fanny Cox, Nannie Hollowell and Grace Lane; and a grandson, Mark Small.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Seymour Funeral Home, 1300 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jean Hood, the Rev. Tony Calhoun and the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. 117, Dudley, N.C.
