JARVIS LEE GWALTNEY

Jarvis Lee Gwaltney, 79, died Tuesday evening at Countryside Village.

Jarvis was born in Wayne County, N.C., April 24, 1934, and was the son of the late Melvin Lee Gwaltney and Isabelle Chesnutt Gwaltney. He was the second of six children.

He was retired from Universal Leaf Tobacco Co. after 38 years, and was a lifetime farmer in Wayne County. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, and at other times, the family will receive friends at the home.

A graveside service will be conducted at Wayne Memorial Park Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Doug Seymour officiating.

Jarvis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joyce Sanders Gwaltney; two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe Dan and Teresa Gwaltney and Jarvis Wayne Gwaltney and Gayle all of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Jarvis Wayne Jr. of Goldsboro Morgan Lee of Jackson Springs, Samuel Jack of Goldsboro, Stephanie Lack (Matt) of Goldsboro and Jo Anna Pippin (Greg) of Goldsboro; great-grandchildren, Emma Smith, Brody Lack, Aaron Pippin and MaKenzie Leigh Pippin; three sisters, Betty Faye Robinson (Clayton) of Raleigh, Sarah Ann Sasser (Jack) of Goldsboro and Anna Frank Radford of Pikeville; a brother-in-law, Morris Ray Davis of Goldsboro; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

In addition to his mother and father, Jarvis was preceded in death by an infant brother, Melvin Chesnutt Gwaltney, and a sister, Darlene Gwaltney Davis.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Countryside Village for the love and care shown to PaPa during his illness, especially his very close friend, Tellus.

In addition to flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Countryside Village of Pikeville, Alzheimer's Association of Eastern North Carolina or The Gideons International through Pineview Baptist Church, Goldsboro, N.C.
