J. WALDO SMITH

The Rev. Julian Waldo Smith, age 88, died Friday afternoon at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

He was born in Wayne County to the late Thad and Laura Smith.

A well-known minister in the Wayne County area, he was a graduate of John Wesley Bible College and a member of Hood Swamp Friends Church.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Hood Swamp Friends Church, with the Rev. Maurice Smith officiating. A private burial will be held at the Smith Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the funeral service in the church fellowship hall.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Christine Warrick Smith; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gloria and L.L. Simmons of Snow Hill and Pam and Dennis Atkins of Asheville; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Saints Smith of Rockingham; and four grandchildren, Kevin and Rhonda Simmons, Ashley and Patsy Simmons, Chris and Doug Muckler and Clark and Holly Atkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Peale, Stan Smith, McGee Smith, Elton Parks, Ronald Edwards, Alnolfo Gomez and Mickey Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro N.C., 27534.
