BERTHA LEE BRYANT YELVERTON BATTS

Bertha Lee Bryant Yelverton Batts, fondly known as Bert, Ma Bert and Mother Batts to many, age 87, fought the good fight of faith, finished her course and peacefully went home to be with the Lord on June 30, 2013.

She was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Greene County N.C., to the late Johnny Bryant and Nellie Johnson Bryant.

She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters, Edna Gray Artis of Goldsboro, Nellie Faye Batts, Patricia Ann Batts both of Baltimore Md., Bertha Mae Fenwick (Charles) of Accokeek, Md., and Gale Shiver (William) of Greenville; five sons, Harold Lee Batts (Jean) of Wilson, William Boyd Batts (Marie), Johnny Russell Batts (Debbie), Terry Lee Batts (Shirley), all of Maryland, and Gregory Batts (Gena) of Goldsboro; 30 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one god-brother, Bishop L.N. Forbes of N.J.; one sister, Emma G. Yelverton of N.Y.; one sister-in-law, Yvonne Yelverton of Goldsboro; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual sons & daughters, other relatives and friends.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, the late William Henry Batts; her parents, Robert Lee Yelverton and Nellie Yelverton; a brother, L.H. Yelverton; a daughter, Peggy Jean Green; four sons, David A. Batts, Timothy Batts, Jimmy Don Batts and Lester Ray Batts; and two grandsons, Ronnie Donnell Batts and Jason Pridgen Batts.

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Goldsboro-Raleigh District Assembly, 211 W. Hooks River Road. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Lane Street Ext., Wilson.

A viewing will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home, and the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Mark Church of Christ, Lanetown Road, in the Faro Community.
