Marie Stafford Hartley, 77, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Rose and the Rev. Patrick Muston officiating. Burial will follow in Selah Christian Church Cemetery with Lee Ann Higgins officiating.

Marie was born in Johnston County on May 18, 1935, to the late Joseph Wilbert Stafford and Nora Kornegay Stafford. She was married to the late Herbert Gilmore Hartley. Marie was a member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a beautiful person whose loving spirit and ever-present smile radiated the joy she experienced in living every day of her life. She was deeply devoted to her family and was happiest when she was spending time in family/friend gatherings.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Cathy Best and husband, Kirby, of Grantham; son, Gary Hartley and wife, Jill, of Trinity; grandchildren, Kelby Best, Kelly Best, Hailey Hartley and Stevie Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kaylan Johnson and McKenna Johnson; brothers, Max Stafford, Earl Stafford and Henry Stafford; and sisters, Pauline Tadlock, Rachel Porter and Louise Popkey.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Vickie Kay Hartley and brothers, Lionel Stafford, Leon Stafford and John Richard Stafford.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
