Allene Kendall Smith Jorgensen, 86, died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 26, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, at 11 a.m. at Tyndall Funeral Chapel in Mount Olive, officiated by Pastor Charles Kirkland. Visitation with the family will immediately follow the service.
Born and raised in Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Allen Leverett Smith and Lena Mowry Mack Smith. She was a retired registered nurse. After retirement, she and her husband, George H. Jorgensen, relocated to Wilmington in the late 1980s, and following his death in 2007, she settled in Mount Olive to be near her daughter. She and Mr. Jorgensen were members of Pine Valley Methodist Church in Wilmington.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Craig P. and Lorrie Jorgensen of Eugene, Ore.; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Allen "Mac" Cassell of Mount Olive; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, with another to arrive in mid-January.
Along with her parents and husband, Mrs. Jorgensen was preceded in death by a son, Allen Jorgensen.
