ROSWELL, Ga. -- Mr. James Renard Davis, 51, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Renard," Roswell, Ga., formerly of Goldsboro, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer March 29, 2012.

James was born Feb. 15, 1961. He was reared by Mary T. Davis, whom James lovingly called Mary T., and the late Rufus Davis.

He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus Davis; a brother, Steve Taylor; and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Chestnut Jr.

James attended Rosewood High School class of 1979.

In 1979, James joined the United States Army.

He was employed for many years at America Honda in Atlanta, Ga. He was also a maintenance technician at Wayne Community College. He worked at New York Carpet World and Southco in Goldsboro.

James opened his Italian Ice business, Reet's Italian Ice, in 2005 in Roswell, Ga. Although he lived in Georgia for the last seven years, he continued to come back to Goldsboro for Police National Night Out to give out free Icees. He also gave out Icees Memorial Day weekend at H.V. Brown Park, and was known for purchasing fair tickets for children in the area during the Wayne County Fair.

Funeral service will be held Friday, April 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Eastern Chapel Missionary Baptist Church located at 1401 N. Carolina St., Goldsboro.

Visitation will be held Thursday, April 5, 2012, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Bishop Lonnie E. Holloway Sr. Memorial Chapel at Smith-Holloway Memorial Funeral Services LLC located at 1220 N. William St., Goldsboro.

Family will be present from 6 to 7 p.m.

James will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Elder Timothy L. Dortch, pastor, officiating. Interment will be held at Wayne Memorial Park.

Family will receive friends at 201 S. Alabama Ave., Goldsboro, where it will assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.

James leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife of 30 years, Teresa "Reet" Davis; three sons, Brandon Weeks and Devonta "Bigg" James of Roswell, Ga., and Deonta "Little" James of Goldsboro; two wonderful grandchildren, Bryson and Jordan Weeks of Roswell Ga.; his mother, Mary T. Davis of Wilmington; mother-in-law, Lillian Weeks of Goldsboro; father-in-law, Lawrence Chestnut of Roswell, Ga.; his godmother, Shirley Sykes of Goldsboro; his mother, Betty Jackson of Wilmington; his six sisters-in-law, Wanda Weeks, Diane Weeks, Shelvie Weeks, Shirley Weeks (Robert) all of Goldsboro, Brenda (Windley) Henry of Raleigh and Nicole William of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Isaac (Alice) Weeks of Smithfield and Tony (Felicia) Weeks of Goldsboro; five aunts, Beaulah Weeks, Hilda Evans and minister Dolly Field of Goldsboro and Dorothy Hansley and Edythe Taylor both of Wilmington; three uncles, Wilbert Weeks of Goldsboro, Johnny Taylor of Jacksonville, Fla., and Willie Taylor of Baltimore, Md.; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and special friends; and special friends, Vernon, Jimmy, Charles, Lionel, Johnny, Tony, Tim, Shelwood, Juju, Mike, Nicholas and James.
