DOROTHY 'DOT' MITCHELL

Feb. 3, 1930-Nov. 21, 2011

Dorothy "Dot" Jones Mitchell, 81, died Monday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Wayne County to the late Kermit S. and Dolly Newell Jones, and was married to the late Henry Malcolm "Mack" Mitchell.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore Jones and Leo Jones.

Dot was a lifetime member of Providence United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Wesley Sunday school class.

"Nanny Dot" was a dedicated caregiver to many children in the community, and was also known for her cooking, sewing, gardening and her love of the outdoors.

A service to celebrate the life of Dot will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Providence United Methodist Church, with pastor Terry Hobbs officiating.

The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall, and at other times will be at the home.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Terry Mitchell of Goldsboro and Robert Wesley and Teresa C. Mitchell of Durham; a brother, George Jones of Goldsboro; a very special friend, Mary Ella Best of Goldsboro; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
