Deacon Jerome Ragland Sr., 66, 700 Robinson Place, was born Sept. 25, 1945, to Mr. Robert Sutton and the late Dorothy Crawford in Wayne County. He took his flight to glory Monday, Nov. 7, 2011, from Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He graduated from Dillard High School and Lenoir Community College.

He was employed for many years by Kemp Furniture and Americal Corp. He later formed his own business, Ragland's Renovations.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, pastor Alice Ragland of the home; a daughter, Lalita Ragland of Goldsboro; a son, Jerome V. Ragland of Clayton; seven sisters, Regina Hemby of Goldsboro, Selina Johnson of Maryland, Diane Judge of Maryland, Shirley Jones of Florida, pastor Robin Best of Virginia, Charlene Sutton of Virginia and Barbara Jean Mathis of New York; two brothers, Jimmy Crawford and Earl Crawford both of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Raheem Forsyth of Goldsboro and Zaria Ragland of Rocky Mount; two brothers-in-law, the Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Shelton Murphy of Chesapeake, Va., and Bobby Murphy of Richmond, Va.; three sisters-in-law, Betty Bell of Dudley, Geraldine Coley of Raleigh and Alonza Murphy of California; a god-grandchild, Isis McGee of Rocky Mount; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, at 11 a.m. at First African Baptist Church, 803 Harris St., Goldsboro.

A viewing will be held an hour prior to the service.

The Rev. Dr. Louis Leigh Jr., pastor of First African Baptist Church, will preside over the services, and the Rev. Dr. Shelton Murphy, pastor of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, Norfolk, Va., will deliver the eulogy.

Following the services in the sanctuary, Mr. Ragland's delicate temple, along with his adored family, will be escorted to Wayne Memorial Park South cemetery.

Mr. Ragland's earthen vessel is peacefully resting at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home, where the Ragland and connected families are receiving prestigious service.
