EDWARD R. HERRING

Edward Ray Herring, 92, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Rolling Ridge Retirement Center surrounded by his family.

Mr. Herring was born in Wayne County on Feb. 8, 1919, to the late Ed L. Herring and Fannie McCullen Herring. He was a retired insurance agent with Southern Life Insurance Company. Mr. Herring was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and the Woodmen of the World.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by his funeral service at 11 a.m. in the chapel with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Kitty Herring, 137 Fairmax Road, Goldsboro.

Mr. Herring is survived by his sons, Robert R. Herring and wife Kay of Clermont, Fla., Jimmy O. Herring and wife Kitty of Goldsboro, and Edward Ray Herring, Jr. and wife Judy of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Wilma Dziegiel and his sister, Hazel H. Sutton of Newton Grove.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Hill Herring, his stepson, Rudy Phillips; and his sisters, Eudell Fields, Ruth H. Cox and Mary H. Price.
