SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Melba Murphy Creech, 85, passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 6, 2011.

A native of Greene County, she was born Nov. 27, 1925, the daughter of Travis Dixon Murphy and Julia Ham Murphy.

Following graduation from Snow Hill High School, she married her late husband, John James Creech Jr., who preceded her in death in 1984.

Mrs. Creech was a homemaker, and a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church until declining health forced her into a skilled care environment.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Reynolds Smith officiating. Committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Snow Hill Cemetery.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bailey Murphy and Willard Murphy, and a sister, Carolyn Gray.

Mrs. Creech's surviving family includes her sons, Ricky Creech and wife, Margaret, of Snow Hill and Ronnie Creech and wife, Ava, of Beaufort; grandchildren, Stephanie C. Wiggins and husband, David, of Snow Hill, Brent Creech and wife, Sherri, of Snow Hill and Lacey McLaughlin and husband, Mark, of Havelock; great-grandchildren, Kara Santorelli, Easton Creech and Travis McLaughlin; sister, Lorraine M. Braxton of Tarboro; sister-in-law, Faye S. Murphy of Snow Hill; brother-in-law, Tommy Gray of Raleigh; and a special caregiver, Gloria Mumford, who is on staff at Glendale Forest of Snow Hill (formerly Britthaven).

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening following the service, and other times at the residence of David and Stephanie Wiggins, 1987 Warrentown Road, Snow Hill.
