MARY MILDRED JERNIGAN LOCKAMY

Mary Mildred Jernigan Lockamy, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Britthaven of Kinston.

Mildred was born Jan. 11, 1912, in Bertie County to the late Ara Hall Warren and Samuel David Jernigan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover Wilson Lockamy. In addition to being a homemaker, Mildred was formerly employed by the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Va., during World War II. She was a hard worker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, ceramics, and other crafts. She won several blue ribbons in ceramics competition for seniors. She was a member of Grainger Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sister, Grace Jackson of Colonial Heights, Va.; her daughter, Patricia Wells of Goldsboro; sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Gracie Lockamy of Stumpy Point; Donald and Joyce Lockamy, Wayne Lockamy, and Gerald Lockamy, all of Kinston; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 11a.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010, at Pinelawn Memorial Park, Kinston, with the Rev. Benji Ramsaur officiating.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Howard-Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home of Donald and Joyce Lockamy, 1904 Holding Place in Kinston.
