IRENE HOWARD MEECE
Mrs. Virgil Irene Howard Meece, 79, of Greenville, formerly of Pikeville, passed away Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home, 102 N. Pine Street, in Fremont. Graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Pike Family Cemetery.
The daughter of the late Lealon Junius and Alice Pike Howard, she was born in the Nahunta community of Wayne County on Jan. 8, 1931. A graduate of Nahunta High School, she attended East Carolina Teachers College and graduated from Atlantic Christian College.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Benjamin Meece, a son, Kenneth Patrick Meece, and her brother, J.D. Howard.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and David Moye of the home and her son, Earl Meece of Pikeville; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Barbara D. Howard of Pikeville and Mrs. Virginia Meece Kinney of Somerset, Ky.; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her two beloved "granddogs," Casey and Trixie.
