DUDLEY -- John Jacob Smith, 79, Dudley, passed away Sunday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He was the husband of the late Agnes Smith, and was retired from the United States Air Force.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Wayne Memorial Park, with Mr. Horace Modlin officiating.

Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Rodney Craig Smith and wife, Pat; his adopted family, Rene Savage and husband, Del, of Pikeville, Kay Bailey of LaGrange, Annette Stevens and husband, Chris, of Goldsboro, Jerri Mozingo and husband, J.B., of Goldsboro and Ray Nelson of Mount Olive; a special granddaughter, Jessica Nelson; four granddaughters; six grandsons; sisters-in-law, Phobe Rakes and husband, Clyde, and Geneva Weaver all of Kernersville; special friends, Dorothy Eleanor "Polly" Parrish of Snow Hill, Abbey Forehand of the home and George Kirby of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Agnes, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Aileen Smith.
