GREENVILLE -- Jane English Brown Walker, 75, Greenville, N.C., departed this life Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010.

Born Aug. 1, 1935, in Rowan, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Sam Page and Lottie Brown.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Wilkerson Funeral Home, with Dr. Greg Rogers and the Rev. Ralph Brown officiating, followed by a service of Christian burial at Pinewood Memorial Park.

A rock solid faith in the Lord Jesus Christ defined Jane Walker and her life.

She attended school in Wilmington, N.C., where she graduated from New Hanover High School. After high school, she attended Holmes Bible College in Greenville, S.C.

Marrying a pastor, she supported her husband's ministry and turned houses into homes in Wilmington, Goldsboro, Dunn and Greenville, N.C.

Yielding to God's special call for her life, Jane devoted much of her time and energy in Christian service to young people, as well as to the work world.

She was a retiree of the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.

She was a member of Oakmont Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Sam Brown.

A beloved wife, devoted mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 55 years, the Rev. Edward M. Walker of the home; daughter, Pam, and husband, Gary Smith, of Washington, N.C.; sons, Eddie Walker and Gordon and wife, Eva Walker, of Greenville, N.C.; grandchildren, Holly Walker of Charlotte, N.C., Woody and Samantha Broome and Jessica Smith of Washington, N.C., Russell and LeAnn Walker Bagasala, Alex Walker and Jaron Walker of Greenville, N.C.; great-grandson, Preston Broome of Washington, N.C.; her sisters, Annie Laura Stewart of Raleigh, N.C., and Julia Sellers of Leland, N.C.; sister-in-law, Pat Brown of Kernersville, N.C.; brother, the Rev. Ralph and wife, Jeanie Brown, of Laurinburg, N.C.; many nieces and nephews both official and adopted, who revered and loved "Aunt Jane"; and her cherished friend and caregiver, Christine Mincey.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, also at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 2100 E. Fifth St., Greenville, N.C., and at other times at the home.
