Died Jan. 2, 2009

Gordon Woodrow Gardner, 80, passed away Saturday.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Gardner will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Willard Hardison and the Rev. Joe Strouse officiating. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late John and Rhoda Carter Gardner. Mr. Gardner was a retired farmer in the Patetown community. He was a member of Free Chapel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, a retired member of the Patetown Volunteer Fire Department and the Wayne County Fireman's Association, and a past member of the Saulston Ruritan Club.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory four children, Judy Goodman (Jerry), Patsy Gardner (Hector Murillo), Teddy Gardner (Christina), and Stewart Gardner (Dawn) all of Goldsboro; a sister, Helen Gardner of Goldsboro; granddaughters, Ginger Goodman Waller (Keith) of Mount Olive and Anna-Gordon Virginia Gardner of Goldsboro; great-grandchildren, Reagan and Hayden Waller; his wife, Maelina Winders Kearney, of Faro; step-children, Keith Hargrove of Goldsboro, Lester Hargrove Stantonsburg (Amanda), Joyce Fariss of Dudley, and Eric Kearney (Lynn) of Bailey.

In death in addition to his parents, Mr. Gardner was preceded by his first wife, Adean McKeel Gardner; brothers, James, J.C., Wendell and twin brother, Guy Gardner; sister, Ruby Dawson; and special nephew, Ray Gardner.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Jerry and Judy Goodman, 402 Airle Place, (Garden Walk) Goldsboro.
