Newitt Jasper Allen, 82, died Friday, Aug. 7, 2009.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Unity Presbyterian Church, Newton Grove. The Rev. Kirk Weisz will officiate. Interment will be at the Tart Family Cemetery on Reedy Prong Church Road, Dunn.
Mr. Allen was born in Johnston County on Sept. 13, 1926, to the late Jasper and Florence Allen. He was a retired farmer and a veteran of WWII, having served in the Pacific Theater.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Tart Allen; daughters and sons-in-law, Jewel and Joe Whitfield of Mount Olive, Lillian Blanchard Schmitt and husband, Bruce, of Dunn, Jane and Paul Fletcher of Richmond, Va.; and a son and daughter-in-law, Leroy and Tammy Allen of Dunn; along with grandchildren, Bobby Joe Whitfield, Katie and Daniel Fletcher, Dylan, Abigale and Emily Allen, Ryan Blanchard, Mark and Kevin Schmitt; also, sisters, Norma Jackson of Clayton, Mavis Dobson of West Chester, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ray and Leroy Allen; sisters, Elgie Wiggs, Dorothy Jones and Christine Lee.
Flowers are welcome and memorial contributions may be directed to Unity Presbyterian Church, c/o Ann Barefoot, 100 Wilkes Road, Dunn, NC 28334.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Aug. 9, 2009, from 5 until 7 p.m., and at other times at the home of Lillian Schmitt, Hawley Ridge subdivision, Aldermill Road, Plainvew Community.
