Barbara Gurley Miller, 62, formerly of Johnston County, died Wednesday at Sentara Careplex Hospital in Hampton, Va.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Andy Stovall officiating. The burial will be in the Creech Cemetery in Smithfield, immediately following the service.
Born July 6, 1947, in Johnston County, she is the daughter of Thomas Raeford Gurley and the late Hester Bailey Gurley. Ms. Miller courageously battled cancer for 14 years with inspirational strength and energy.
She is survived by daughters, Sandra Motes Hay and husband, J. D., of Hampton, Va., Theresa Lynn Motes of Hampton, Va.; father, Thomas Raeford Gurley of Hampton, Va.; brothers, Thomas Raeford Gurley Jr. and wife, Lisa, of West Virginia, Phillip Wayne Gurley and wife, Kimberly, of Tennessee; sister, Reitta Gurley Wing and husband, Ken, of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Amanda Ainsley Old, Elizabeth Ileen Moore, Collin James Motes; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at Casey Funeral Home in Princeton.
