MOUNT OLIVE -- Ruth Ezzell Smith, 83, 705 Ann St., died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. by the graveside in Maplewood Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas Bartlett officiating.
The family will greet friends at the cemetery immediately following the service, and at other times at the residence.
Mrs. Smith was a retired clerk in jewelry sales. She was the widow of John R Smith, daughter of the late Gordon and Alice Cherry Ezzell and sister of the late Sherwood Ezzell.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Velburn Brewer of Faison, Carolyn and Willie Powell of Faison and Kay and Eggbert Wise of Mount Olive; a son and daughter-in-law, John H. and Angela Smith of LaGrange; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise E. Turner of Mount Olive and Nancy E. and Mack Summerlin of Kenansville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Norwood and Elinor Ezzell of Mount Olive and Gordon Ezzell Jr. and Angela Ezzell of Rocky Mount; another sister-in-law, Patricia Ezzell of Dudley; seven grandchildren, Velburn Ray Brewer Jr., Stephanie McClenny, Tammy Worrells, Willie Ray Powell Jr., Angie Wise, Kim Barrett and Jonathan Smith; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Mount Olive Fire Department or its Ladies Auxiliary.
Tyndall Funeral Home is handling the service.
