GEORGE C. CULBRETH

LaGRANGE -- George C. Culbreth, 90, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning at the Brian Center of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 until 11 a.m. at Seymour Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. in Willow Dale Cemetery.

George was born in Wayne County on Sept. 28, 1918 to the late Herman Paul Culbreth and Atha Ellen Ezzell Culbreth. He was married to the late Frances Dawson Culbreth. George retired from Cherry Hospital and had served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

George is survived by his daughters, Carolyn Mansfield of Rocky Mount, Julie Talton and husband, Roger, of LaGrange and Ellen Hughes and husband, Tom, of Clayton; his son, William Lee Mansfield of Pikeville; three grandchildren, William Lee Mansfield III, Matthew Thomas Hughes and Anna Christine Hughes; two "special" nephews, Gene Thornton and wife, Mary, of Greenville and Harry Thornton of Wilmington; and a "special" daughter, Jeanne R. Moore.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin Berlin Culbreth and Chester Culbreth; and one sister, Estiene Culbreth.
