HOLDEN BEACH --Allison Wolfe Best, 49, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, surrounded by her family following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.

A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Holden Beach Chapel, 107 Rothschild St., Holden Beach. Family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Allison was born in Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 1, 1959. She attended and graduated from Trinity Preparatory School, Orlando, Fla., in 1977. Allison obtained a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1981 from Emory University in Atlanta, Ga.

After obtaining her certification as a CPA in 1984, she relocated to Goldsboro, where she lived with her family until 1996. In 1996, the family moved to Holden Beach. She was employed as a CPA with Lanier, Whaley, Craft and Company in Wilmington.

Allison attended the Holden Beach Chapel and spent many hours volunteering her time to help others and served on various Town of Holden Beach committees. Her boundless energy and caring attitude will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by husband, Dwight Best; daughter, Lauren McCarthy of Raleigh; father, Claude Wolfe of Orlando, Fla.; sister, Lisa Caldwell, of Columbia, S.C.; grandson, Peyden McCarthy of Raleigh; and nephew, Cameron Caldwell of Columbia, S.C.

Special thanks go to the caring and professional staffs of The Zimmer Cancer Center, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Allison's memory to The Zimmer Cancer Center, 2131 S. 17th St., Wilmington, N.C., 28401 or the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 2222 N. 17th St., Wilmington, N.C., 28401.

Arrangements are being handled by Brunswick Funeral Service and Crematory of Shallotte.
