DUDLEY -- Golfers from six area high schools took to the links at Southern Wayne on Tuesday, and one outlasted them all.

The Dark Horse carded a nine-hole round of 39 -- good enough for medalist honors by five shots over Wayne Christian 6th-grader Karsyn Roberts (44) and six over Charles B. Aycock senior Abby Sauls, who finished third with a round of 45.

Other top individual scores included Haley Narron of North Johnston, who also signed for a 45.

Rounding out North Johnston's winning team score of 146 were Caroline Baker (49) and Traclyn Clark (52).

CBA's second-place effort was formed by Sauls, with help from from Savannah Strickland (49) and Leah Campbell (54).

Wayne Christian's Roberts was complemented on the Eagle leaderboard by Grace Buddin, who shot 52. Bri Verme rounded out WC's counting scores with a round of 55.

Southern Wayne was led by Amanda Murphy and Cathryn Jones, who shot 52 and 57, respectively.

Princeton High also placed two golfers in the field, and counted scores from Casey Mitchell (55) and Gabby Adams (70).

Wayne Country Day 9,

Neuse Christian 2

Wayne Country Day School cruised to its second runaway victory in as many days, trouncing Neuse Christian by a 9-2 count on Tuesday.

Ben Cohen (4) and Nehemiya Shaw (3) logged seven goals for the Chargers.

Marquise Newell and Bash Attiah also scored.

Finding the assist column were Jack Talton, Newell, Cohen, Christian Garloch, David Gurley, Luis Lopez and Marcus Metcalfe.  

Charles B. Aycock 3,

Wilson Hunt 1

Charles B. Aycock moved to 5-0 yesterday with a victory over Big East 3-A foe Wilson Hunt.

Volleyball

Goldsboro 3,

Wayne Country Day 1

Goldsboro defeated Wayne Country Day on Tuesday in four sets: 25-13, 24-26, 24-26, 23-25.

Hannah Neal logged 14 kills, and Lexi Jeffreys recorded 10. Cate Eagles had 34 assists.

Wilmington Christian 3,

Faith Christian 0

Wilmington Christian filed a straight-sets triumph over FCA on Tuesday by a 25-7, 25-15, 25-11 mark.

The Conquerors were paced by senior Jordan Lawhon, who had nine digs. Junior Emma Meador contributed 11 assists, while sophomore Chloe Mills had eight digs and one kill.

Makenzie Riley added nine digs and one kill, and Elizabeth Sasser, a 9th-grader, registered five digs.

The setback moved Faith Christian to 1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

 

Wayne Christian 3,

New Life Academy 0

Wayne Christian's balanced attack led to a 25-13, 25-12, 25-11 triumph over New Life Academy on Monday.

Ashlee Harrellson finished the proceedings with three aces and eight kills, while Ashton Cobb contributed six kills.

Hope Shook had nine kills and Leah Boswell served five aces. Kasey Norris enjoyed an excellent outing, filing a total of 31 assists.

The victory moved WC to 1-3 overall. Its next match is on Thursday at home versus Pope John Paul.

DH Conley  3,

Eastern Wayne 0

HOLLYWOOD CROSSROADS -- DH Conley turned back Eastern Wayne, 25-10, 25-5 and 25-17 on Tuesday to remain unbeaten on the season.

EW's effort was paced by Emily Newsome, who had four kills and four assists.

New Bern 2

Arlanda Faulkner had 50 kills -- yes, 50 -- in CBA's thrilling, 3-2 victory over ECC 3-A foe New Bern on Monday.

Daelyn Brock added 15 kills, while libero Cassandra Lassiter added 45 digs.

Tennis

Eastern Wayne 8,

South Central 1

Bella Bowen, Amelia Dunmire, Ava Bowen and Sarah Underwood all registered singles victories yesterday to propel Eastern Wayne to an 8-1 victory on Tuesday over ECC foe South Central.

The Warriors simply continued their form from the doubles session, where they swept the Falcons in short order.

"This was our first home match of the year after tough losses at Conley and New Bern," head coach Craig Hassell said. "We continue to improve and gain more experience for a young team with each match."

The victory moved Eastern Wayne to 1-2 overall.

Its next match is Thursday versus league and county rival Charles B. Aycock.

Conley filed a straight-set win, claiming both games by a 25-6 margin.
