Abby Sauls and Leah Campbell both fired 9-hole rounds of 45 on Thursday, securing co-medalist honors in the Wayne County High School Invitational.

The event, staged at Goldsboro Municipal Golf Course, included teams from Charles B. Aycock, Rosewood, Wayne Christian, Goldsboro High and Midway.

Aycock's first-place team score of 144 was rounded out by Savannah Strickland (54) and Kaylee Glascoe, who filed a round of 65.

Wayne Christian's second-place effort of 162 was helmed by Karsyn Roberts, who fired a 46. Bri Verme (54), Annalise Fitzmorris (62) and Caroline Jones (68) completed scoring for the Lady Eagles.

Finishing in third place was Midway, who posted a team score of 172.

Briyanna Sutton's 64 paced Rosewood High's fourth-place finish (202). She was complemented on the leaderboard by Rebecca Dunham (66), Gracie Smith (72) and Courtney Hobbs (72).

Goldsboro's Riley Hales and Rebecca Lanier shot 56 and 68, respectively.

The lady linksters are back in action this week, traveling to Harnett County for a match at Sandy Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.

D.H. Conley 9,

Southern Wayne 0

Southern Wayne dropped its match versus D.H. Conley on Friday, 9-0. The Lady Saints will next take the court on Tuesday versus Eastern Wayne.

J.H. Rose 7,

Eastern Wayne 2

J.H. Rose defeated Eastern Wayne, 7-2, in an ECC 3A match contested on Thursday afternoon.

Amelia Dunmire and Ava Bowen posted the Lady Warriors' only doubles victory. Bowen defeated Emma Byrum in singles play.

"I thought the team gave another tremendous effort today as they did last week at Aycock," head coach Craig Hassell said. "Our team is learning how to construct points, rally and be consistent."

The setback moved Eastern Wayne to 1-4 on the season. Its next match is on Monday at Greene Central.

Wallace-Rose Hill 5,

Spring Creek 4

The Lady Gators came up short in a close East Central 2-A match on Thursday versus Wallace-Rose Hill.

Sophomore Amanda Haggerty led the SC contingent, teaming with Ivy Rouse for a doubles win before spilling Jordan Maynor, 6-1, 6-2 in singles.

Vanessa Southerland and Jordan Lane also collected singles wins for the blue-and-green, who remains winless on the season.

Soccer

North Johnston 6,

Goldsboro 1

Colin Williams scored Goldsboro's lone goal in a 6-1 setback to North Johnston on Friday. He was assisted by Noah Hancock.

Up next for the Cougars (2-4-2) is a home tilt with Beddingfield on Monday.

Eastern Wayne 1,

Wilson Fike 1

A goal by Eastern Wayne's Bryan Morales helped preserve a draw with Wilson Fike on Thursday. He was assisted by Josh Gross.

Now 3-0-2 on the season, the Warriors play host to D.H. Conley on Tuesday.

Volleyball

Wayne Christian 3,

Christ Covenant 0

Wayne Christian split a pair of matches to conclude a busy week of volleyball in Patetown.

On Thursday, the Lady Eagles defeated Christ Covenant in straight sets, 25-17, 25-17 and 25-10. Ashlee Harrelson led the way with 12 kills and six digs. Sarah Sawyer added four service aces, one block and eight digs.

Kerr-Vance 3,

Wayne Christian 0

Friday proved to be a challenge, as WC fell to Kerr-Vance in 15-25, 17-25, 17-25 fashion.

Holly Gurley contributed two service aces and 18 digs, while Sarah Sawyer had three blocks, three kills and one service ace. Ashton Cobb also had a pair of blocks.

Hope Shook recorded eight kills and 18 digs, while senior Kasey Norris added 18 assists.

Wayne Christian is now 4-5 on the season and undefeated (3-0) in conference play. Its next match is at home Tuesday versus Greenfield School.

Wilson Christian 3,

Faith Christian 0

Faith Christian suffered at the hands of Wilson Christian on Friday, 18-25, 17-25 and 22-25.

Chloe Mills had seven aces, four blocks and three kills for the Conquerors. Reagan Baumgartner added four aces, four blocks, one kill and one dig.

Jordan Lawhon contributed one ace, one kill and four digs, while Emma Meador had one ace, three digs and five kills.

Football

Greene Central 34,

Eastern Wayne 8

Andrew Fricks tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Joyner on Thursday, but it wasn't enough for the Warriors to keep pace with Greene Central.

Nicholas Barrett led the Warrior defense with eight solo tackles.

C.B. Aycock 8,

Goldsboro 6

Goldsboro's Jamin Jacobs rushed eight times for 72 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's close loss to 3-A C.B. Aycock.

Rosewood 22,

Pender 0

The Eagles pitched a road shutout on Thursday night, blanking host Pender.
