DEEP RUN -- Rylee Pate and Haley Brogden combined for a two-hitter inside the pitcher's circle during North Duplin's season-opening, 5-0 conquest of South Lenoir on Tuesday evening.
Pate fanned seven Blue Devil batters and didn't yield a hit in three innings of work. Brogden provided four innings of six-strikeout scoreless relief.
Brogden homered and drove in three runs during a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. Pate batted 3-for-4, while Alyssa Santos (RBI) contributed two hits. Mikayla Koch and Courtney Brock each had one hit.
The Rebels, the reigning state 1-A champions, entertain Richlands on Friday. First pitch is 6 p.m.
