SAMUEL CHARLES PATRICK

Dec. 5, 1929-July 24, 2017

Samuel Charles Patrick, 87, Kinston, N.C., and formerly Goldsboro, N.C., passed away peacefully at home July 24, 2017.

He was born Dec. 5, 1929, the youngest child of Willy Morris Cross Patrick and Ralph Clinton Patrick of Gastonia, N.C.

He graduated from Blue Ridge School for Boys in Hendersonville, N.C., and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served for four years, and was stationed in Germany, competing on the golf team at courses across Europe, including memorable matches at The Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland.

He returned home and graduated from the University of North Carolina, where he was a member of the University of North Carolina Golf Team and Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

Sam married Marjorie Rose in 1955, and moved to Goldsboro, N.C., where he enjoyed a career in sales based on relationships, follow-through and The Golden Rule, and was actively involved in farming and investments.

Throughout the years, Sam competed locally, regionally and nationally in golf, winning club championships and national tournaments at Pinehurst.

He was an avid University of North Carolina fan, and while he celebrated Tar Heel Basketball victories and national championships, he continued to hold hope for the resurgence of Tar Heel football.

He loved his family and pets, and enjoyed traveling with his wife, studying and collecting antiques and art, healthy eating and drinking wine.

He also especially enjoyed the last line of the Carolina Fight Song.

Sam will be greatly missed, and always remembered for his love of family and friends, his thoughtful, polite and considerate ways and his happy smile and positive outlook.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marjorie Rose Patrick; son, Samuel Charles Patrick Jr.; his parents; brother, Ralph Clinton Patrick; and sister, Mary Patrick Fields.

He is survived by his daughters, Molly and her husband, Randy Kelley, of Kinston, N.C., and Terry and her husband, Lon Walton, of Jacksonville Fla.; his grandchildren, Ryan Kelley, Cross Kelley, Neale Walton, Ali Walton and Ann Maris Walton; great-grandson, Gordon Kelley; brother, William Morris Patrick; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Monday, July 31, the family will host a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. at Kinston Country Club, following a graveside burial in Goldsboro.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Goldsboro, 1101 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or Lenoir County SPCA of Kinston, 2455 Rouse Road Extension, Kinston, N.C., 28504.
