NOAH W. SITES

Dec. 26, 1922-July 25, 2017

Noah W. Sites, 94, Pikeville, and formerly of Raleigh, began the first day of his eternal life in heaven July 25, 2017.

The son of the late Noah W. Sites Sr. and Bertha Bergdoll Sites, Noah was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Petersburg, W. Va.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Azile Thomas Sites; sister, Leta Sites Nelson; brother, Leon Sites; and several half-brothers and sisters.

Noah loved God, loved his family, loved life and loved his country.

A very godly man, he lived his entire life for the Lord, every day quoting Psalm 118:24 "This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it."

Noah and Azile were founding members of St. Mark's United Methodist Church and North Raleigh United Methodist Church, both in Raleigh, N.C. Noah served the Lord faithfully on many church committees and in numerous church projects.

During World War II, Noah served in the United States Army Air Corps, 8th Wing, 379th Bomb Group. He was a navigator on B-17 Bombers.

Noah loved to gaze at the night skies, knowing all about and explaining to family and friends all about the stars, planets and phenomena of the sky.

Golfing and gardening were two of Noah's dearest hobbies.

Being left-handed, he enjoyed joking with others who were also "lefties."

The bounty of his garden he shared with generously and lovingly with others.

He also enjoyed watching birds, especially the blue birds hummers.

Noah is survived by his son, Noah Michael Sites and wife, Barbara; daughter, Peggy Sites VanDevender and husband, Danny; granddaughter, Devon Sites Johnson and husband, Matt; granddaughter, Katie Sites Taylor and husband, Mitch; and great-grandchildren, Noah William Johnson, Grace Elizabeth Johnson and Noah Mitchell Taylor.

Also, granddaughter, Danielle VanDevender Bradford and husband, Elvis; great-granddaughter, Baylie RaeAnn Kerley; great-grandson, Robert Anthony Kerley; and great-granddaughter, Anna Bradford.

He also had a special place in his heart for dear friend, Brenda Daniels, and Four Paws, his four-legged companion.

A celebration of Noah's life will be at North Raleigh United Methodist Church, Saturday, July 29, 2017, at 1 p.m., with visitation following the celebration.

Friends and family are also welcome to visit at Noah's home Friday, July 28, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, Noah requested that donations be made to North Raleigh United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, Guiding Eyes for the Blind Inc. or the Salvation Army.
