LINDA FAYE HOWELL PAYNE

Jan. 24, 1956-May 25, 2016

Mrs. Linda Faye Howell Payne peacefully went home to glory Wednesday May 25, 2016.

Linda was born in Goldsboro, N.C., Jan. 24, 1956. She was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. O'Cesar and Othern Howell.

Many who knew Linda, knew her as a woman who could put a smile on anyone's face. She naturally drew people in to her with her kind and giving spirit.

Linda was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and friend.

Many may not be aware of her many talents. Not only did she have the gift of spreading joy, but she was also a poet and a writer and a gifted interior designer, and she recently expanded her interests in painting. This is just to name a few.

She traveled with her husband, Maurice, and family during his enlistment in the United States Air Force. She embraced life and all its many splendors.

After returning to North Carolina, Linda obtained her bachelor's degree from University of Mount Olive, and worked for many years within Wayne and Wilson county public school systems.

Later, she transitioned to Wayne Community College.

Her talents and expertise were ones to admire.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father; mother-in-law, Connie Payne; sister, Martha Ferguson; and brother, Milton Howell.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice; her daughters, Kenise, Connie and LaShonda; her father-in-law, Maurice Payne Sr.; her grandchildren, Quaray, Tee Tee, Nathan and Grayson (soon to arrive); her sister, Hilda Cherry (Roosevelt); brother, Kenneth Howell (Willie); brothers-in-law, John Ferguson and Larry Payne; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Geagan (Jeff) and Belvia Young; an aunt; uncle; nephews; nieces; and a host of cousins and friends.

One cannot express the love, admiration, joy, beauty and strength she encompassed. She was truly a remarkable woman, and will be greatly missed by many.

The celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Barnes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 1108 Rosewood Road, Goldsboro, N.C. She will be laid to rest at Wayne Memorial Park, 2925 U.S. 117, Dudley, N.C.

There will be a visitation held Sunday, May 29, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. in J.B. Rhodes Jr. Memorial Chapel at J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home and Cremations.
