MILDRED RAE BRITT MATTHIS

Mildred Rae Britt Matthis, 86, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, at Kenansville Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Matthis was born April 11, 1928, in Wayne County to George Carl Britt and Omega Cherry Britt.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, at Kenanville Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service in Matthis Cemetery in Clinton, N.C.
Mrs. Matthis is survived by son, John Wayne Matthis and wife, Ellen, of Faison; daughters-in-law, Lynette Matthis of Clinton and Kim Matthis of Kenansville; son-in-law, Jay Pickett; brother, Carl Neverne Britt and wife, Shelvia, of Faison; sisters-in-law, Nancy Carol Britt of Albertson, Jean Boyer of Belair, Md., and Helen Matthis of Turkey; and sister, Glenda B. Beavers and husband, Keith, of Mount Olive, N.C.
She is also survived by grandchildren, Wendy M. Jones, Jeanie M. Suggs, Billy Matthis, Johnny Matthis, Dr. Meridith M. Taylor, Kristina P. Quinn, Michael Pickett and Taylor Matthis; great grandchildren, Morgan Jones, Sarah Suggs, John Ethan Suggs and Collin Jack Quinn; a special caregiver, LaWanna Wynn; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Matthis was preceded in death by husband, John T. Matthis; sons, C. and T. Matthis and Tracy Patrick Matthis; daughter, Sharon M. Pickett; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Matthis; brothers, Cornia Britt, Delmas Britt and wife, Susan, and Carlie Britt; and a great-grandson, Thomas Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Kenansville Baptist Church Youth, P.O. Box 865, Kenansville, N.C., 28349.
The family expresses a very heartfelt thank you to Kenansville Baptist Church, her neighborhood and many friends for their continued support throughout the years. Simple words cannot express our gratitude for the loving care provided for Mildred during her final days.
