JAMES D. BURROUGHS

James Durwood "Dick" Burroughs, 78, died Thursday morning at Genesis of Mount Olive.

Born in Lenoir County, he was the son of the late James Edward Burroughs and Ruby Lewis Burroughs.

He was a retired truck driver, and member of Dudley Christian Church.

A service to celebrate Dick's life will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Emmaus Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jim Willoughby officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Family members will greet friends at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Christine West Burroughs; two sons, Mark A Burroughs and wife, Joye, of Morganton and Gary M. Burroughs and wife, Doris M., of Mount Olive; a daughter, Susan Burroughs Sutton and husband, Randy, of LaGrange; three sisters, Julia Darden, Lou Ellen Smith and Carol Anderson; four grandchildren, Susan Burroughs Sawyer and husband, Tom, of Mount Holly, Joseph Burroughs and wife, Cori, of Wilson, Sarah Burroughs Avery and husband, Waightstill, of Kernersville and Jason Sutton and wife, Michelle, of Raleigh; and four great-grandchildren, Ben, Zoye, Isaac and Owen.
